What a difference a day makes. As most of you know, on September 28th, Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida and had far-reaching effects on our barrier island communities.
How are we? Much like our Sanibel Lighthouse, who lost a leg in the storm and remains standing, we are survivors. Shaken but not fallen. Beaten but not broken.
In fact, many of our inland and waterfront areas were less affected by the storm. Most businesses in downtown Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Estero and Bonita Springs are up and running, including the majority of our largest meeting hotels and resorts. I am happy to report that 65% of our hotel rooms (over 9,000) in Lee County have reopened with more coming online every day.
Since seeing is believing, I recorded the following time stamped videos to showcase how quickly the recovery and cleanup efforts have progressed in those areas:
The outpouring of love and support we have received, makes my heart soar.
It bears repeating, the most beneficial way to help our community is to continue to hold and attend future meetings in our area. This will help in the economic recovery of our community and keep our hard-working hospitality workforce employed.
The Sanibel Lighthouse is not only a navigational beacon, it is a beacon of strength and hope for our community. And so are you, our treasured clients and friends…thank you!
