The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to award a contract for a comprehensive structural and architectural assessment of buildings at the Lee Civic Center in North Fort Myers to Weston and Sampson Engineers.

The approximately seven-month assessment includes the engineering systems and overall conditions of the 44-year-old location. The contract is for $375,765.

Improvements and repairs were made during the county-owned building’s lifetime. An assessment of the facility’s condition will determine the best course of action to continue to host various activities.

The complex, which includes 163,255 square feet of floor space and the fairgrounds, has been managed by the Southwest Florida and Lee County Fair Association since 1996 with the deal set to expire in October. Over the years, the center hosted concerts, agriculture events, fairs, trade shows, high school graduations and other events.
