Hotel Indigo to become Tapestry Collection by Hilton.

The Hotel Indigo in downtown Fort Myers will undergo a renovation and a brand name change.

The 67-room hotel at 1520 Broadway will be transformed over the next six months and become Tapestry Collection by Hilton, a luxury brand.

The renovated hotel will have 72 rooms.

The eight stories will be renovated, one floor and about 6,500 square feet at a time, beginning next week. This will allow the hotel to remain open during the renovation, said Nicole Miskovic, director of marketing and communications for Firmo Construction.

The Sarasota-based construction company will manage the project.

The rebranding and renovations come four months after Mainsail Lodging & Development opened The Luminary Hotel nearby in downtown Fort Myers.

HOS Management Company, based in Savannah, Georgia, will manage the Tapestry property.

A fully renovated rooftop pool and bar and a new commercial kitchen and lobby bar will offer expanded food and beverage options, a news release said.

“The conversion to this Tapestry Collection by Hilton is positioned to bring guests and visitors of this growing city an unparalleled experience, which is a pillar at the core of our mission for each of our hotel properties,” Krishan Gandhi, vice president of development of HOS Management, said in the news release.

Z-Space Design and architect Tim Miller of Dimensions Inc., will be designing the interior work with Firmo.

Ownership of the hotel, Laxmi Lodging LLC Florida, will not change. The hotel was purchased for $9.3 million in June 2018, property records show.

The Hotel Indigo branding contract with IHG runs through late May. The exact date of the branding change is to be determined and will depend on the timetable for the initial renovations.

“With the exceptional amount of migration to Florida recently, it’s encouraging to see this growth and development in the region,” said Eric Collin, president of Firmo Construction. “Our partnership with HOS Management will be a transformative conversion for this property, located in the heart of the Fort Myers River District. Firmo is ready to bring decades of innovative building methods, construction expertise, and work with the Hilton brand to deliver this full-service luxury hotel tailored to the unique community of Fort Myers.”

Firmo Construction is also set to break ground on the Hampton Inn by Hilton, with the site prepared with underground utilities at the corner of Cleveland Avenue and McGregor Boulevard.

That hotel will have 118 rooms, an outdoor pool and patio and a fitness center.

"We're excited to be transitioning the hotel to the Tapestry Collection by Hilton later this year," Hotel Indigo general manager Daryl Rixman said in an email. "In conjunction with our Hampton Inn by Hilton that is currently under construction, joining the Hilton family will strengthen the hotel, our position in the market and our company as part of the foundation of growth in the downtown area of Fort Myers."
